Extraordinary scenes unfolded at the Grand Finale of the Absa Cape Epic 2026. It was a tough edition, and every rider who conquered it displayed immense grit and determination. The Elite Men’s race came down to just 13 seconds between the top two teams. South Africa’s Matt Beers and Tristan Nortje made history as the first all-African team to win the event. Starting the final stage 13 seconds behind overnight leaders Luca Braidot and Simone Avondetto, the South African duo finished third on the day—behind stage winners Sam Gaze and Luca Schwarzbauer—but crucially ahead of the Italians. The result secured Beers his fourth title and Nortje his maiden victory. In the Elite Women’s race, South Africa’s Candice Lill claimed her first Cape Epic title alongside partner Alessandra Keller. The dominant pair capped off their campaign by winning seven of the eight stages. In total, 1,168 riders earned their place in the coveted “Book of Legends,” officially finishing what will be remembered as one of the most challenging editions in the race’s history.
