After 8 grueling days, 707km of racing, and nearly 16,000m of climbing, the Absa Cape Epic comes to a spectacular close in Stellenbosch, with a short but brutal 58km final stage through the iconic Jonkershoek trails pushing exhausted riders to their limits. In the men’s race, just 13 seconds separated the top teams at the start, setting up one of the most intense finales in the event’s history. Canyon surged early to secure the stage win, but it was Toyota Specialized Imbuko’s Matt Beers and Tristan Nortje who delivered a heroic performance under pressure to claim the overall title, making history as the first all-South African team to win the Cape Epic. In the women’s race, Candice Lill and Alessandra Keller rode with composure and control, managing their lead perfectly to secure the overall victory, marking Keller’s first Epic win and a long-awaited triumph for Lill after five second-place finishes. A week of relentless racing, crashes, strategy, and sheer determination ends with unforgettable champions crowned at the 2026 Absa Cape Epic. Who stood out for you this year?

The Grand Finale of the Absa Cape Epic delivered a dramatic and unforgettable finish, as the race came down to just seconds on the iconic trails of Stellenbosch. In the men’s race, all eyes were on the battle for the overall title, with just 13 seconds separating the top two teams at the start. Matt Beers and Tristan Nortje went all-in from the gun, attacking early and relentlessly to overturn the deficit. Despite crashes, pressure, and a full-gas chase from Wilier Vittoria, the South African duo held their nerve to secure a historic overall victory — the first all-South African win in over two decades. Up front, Sam Gaze and Lukas Schwarzbauer powered to the stage win, capping off a strong week. The women’s race saw Candice Lill and Alessandra Keller complete a dominant campaign in style. Riding controlled and confident, they stayed out of trouble before pushing clear to take yet another stage win — their seventh — and seal the overall title. After years of near misses, it was a breakthrough victory for Lill and a dream debut for Keller. Eight days, countless battles, and one unforgettable race — the 2026 Absa Cape Epic delivered everything, right down to the final kilometre.

By this stage, teams will be begging for an easy day. But at the Absa Cape Epic, nothing comes easy. The Grand Finale will be no pleasure cruise to the finish line, rather it’s a concluding demand for fatigued minds and aching bodies. But hand in hand with the demands come the pleasures of the Jonkershoek trail network, where the trail builders wear the dirt on their shirts like badges of honour. The trails will be lined with hundreds of spectators chanting teams onwards, from the very front of the field to the very back. For the racers, the trail-laden route will make it tough to pull away. If the title is up for grabs this late in the day, there’s no telling what will happen. If the Jersey wearers start the Grand Finale with a healthy gap, then the title is theirs to lose. Either way, a thrilling Finale waits for the teams hailing from over 50 countries.

La sexta etapa de la Absa Cape Epic ofreció una carrera rápida e intensa en los emblemáticos senderos de Stellenbosch, donde los estrechos caminos y el ritmo implacable no dejaban margen de error. En la carrera masculina, los ataques iniciales marcaron la pauta antes de que la carrera se convirtiera en una batalla táctica entre los aspirantes a la general. Bart Alleman y Martin Stošek lograron una contundente victoria de etapa, pero la historia más importante se desarrolló tras ellos: Matt Beers y Tristan Nortje protagonizaron una actuación crucial para recortar tiempo a los líderes de la general. Tras un duro día para Wilier Vittoria, su ventaja en la general se redujo a tan solo 13 segundos, preparando un dramático desenlace en la etapa final. En la carrera femenina, Candice Lill y Alessandra Keller continuaron dominando. Con una carrera inteligente y controlada, gestionaron la etapa a la perfección antes de distanciarse para asegurar otra victoria, la sexta de la carrera. Con sus rivales más cercanas fuera de la lucha, ampliaron enormemente su ventaja en la general y se acercaron a la victoria final. Con todo en juego al entrar en la etapa final, la Etapa 6 preparó el escenario para un final a todo o nada en la Absa Cape Epic.
