Video: Highlights | Stage 3 | 2025 Absa Cape Epic

The sun came up on Stage 3 of the Absa Cape Epic at Fairview in Paarl and started blazing as early as 7am. Due to the extreme heat weather forecast, the organisers shortened the stage from 90km to 78km and opted to start the race at 6:45am. It meant the UCI Men’s and the Aramex UCI Women’s Categories enjoyed the best conditions of the day, but ‘best’ is relative when you just need to hold a cup of water outside to make the tea. In the UCI Men’s Category race, Wilier-Vittoria (Luca Braidot and Simone Avondetto) won the stage by a single second ahead of Scott-SRAM MTB Racing’s Nino Schurter and Filippo Colombo, leaving Schurter and Colombo still lead the overall GC by 43 seconds. Third place on the day - and now third overall - went to local riders Marco Joubert and Tristan Nortje (Imbuko ChemChamp A). At one stage it looked like Joubert and Nortje would use their local knowledge to claim a stage win, but the two leading teams at this year’s race just had more ‘legs’ in the sprint finish.
