Friday’s Queen Stage could be the decisive moment at this year’s race with the top two sitting tightly together. South African pair Marco Joubert and Tristan Nortje (Imbuko ChemChamp A) sit third overall, but an almost 10-minute gap to first place appears insurmountable. Nino Schurter and Filippo Colombo (Scott-SRAM MTB Racing) hold the upper hand in the UCI Men’s Category race leading into Stage 5, but Stage 4 winners Luca Braidot and Simone Avendetto (Wilier-Vittoria) are breathing down their necks just 42 seconds behind in second place. Annika Langvad and Sofia Gomez Villafane (Toyota | Specialized) continue to cruise at this year’s edition of the Untamed African MTB Race. They have a near-15 minute lead in the general classification, with Vera Looser and Alexis Skarda (Efficient Infiniti SCB SRAM) second overall.
